Like most other entrepreneurs who dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to achieve true desires, Jacob Gottlieb exerted himself with maximum effort to ultimately become both a Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Visium Asset Management, LLC. Based out of New York, Visium Asset Management is a company that was founded by Gottlieb in 2005 that primarily services as a healthcare investment firm. However, prior to his attainment of such success, Gottlieb used a combination of the parental inspiration that he derived from his upbringing and his extensive academic background to assist him in manifesting his chosen career path.
Throughout his childhood, Jacob Gottlieb witnessed both the integrity and genuine concern for the well-being of others that his parents exuded within their careers. His father was an economics professor and his mother was a pediatrician. Nevertheless, as a result of this, he aspired to be just like them. Later in life, post secondary school, Gottlieb earned a B.A. degree in economics from Brown University and a M.D degree from New York University Medical School. Yet, post completion of his medical internship, Gottlieb decided to solely focus on the pursuit of finance. He then further committed himself by investing within his passion to receive his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter from the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR) in 2001.
Using his expertise in finance, Gottlieb was employed by a myriad of finance companies (Merlin Financial in London, England, Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., LLC, and Balyasny Asset Management, L.P.) that collectively equipped him with the versatility in finance experience and the motivation needed to launch his own company, Visium Asset Management. Moreover, in addition to being well-versed in the academics of medicine, finance, and business, Jacob Gottlieb utilizes his societal platform to give back to the community. Covenant House is one of several nonprofit organizations that Gottlieb works with that provides shelter to trafficked and homeless adolescents. The organization has provided service in 6 countries for over a period of 40 years. Certainly, both Gottlieb’s entrepreneurial and humanitarian efforts prove that he not only believes in building opportunities for himself, but he believes in investing in the community to generate potential in aspiring young professionals.
