José Borghi of Mullen Lowe Brasil
Jose Borghi is an award-winning Brazilian advertisement guru. Since junior high, he know that this was the path that he wanted to pursue. He knew that it would not be all rosy but that with hard work, he would get to where he wanted. His sister was instrumental in his career path determination. She knew that taking Borghi to a cinema for the Lions award-winning ads, would surely be a path-shaper.
Education and Career
Having been born in Presidente Prudente, Borghi studied in this town for most of his early years. By the time he was completing junior high, he already knew what career he wanted to undertake. He was later admitted to the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC), based in Campinas, Sao Paulo state.
On graduating, he landed his very first job at Standard Ogilvy. He was employed as a long term Copywriter. After years of serving in this renowned marketing company, he was tapped by other reputable companies in the industry. He had the opportunity to grow skills in companies such as DM9 and Talent. Through his employee work life, he got the opportunity to work with big clients such as Unilever, American Express and Asian Motors.
When he though he had acquired the necessary skills, he quit his job and began his own company. Together with Erh Ray, they began BorghiErh. This company has grown to be Mullen Lowe, a beast in the industry.
Borghi’s story is one of persistence and hard work. In his various interviews on how he started Mullen Lowe, Borghi says that they had to start from the scratch. Skills and experience was all they had, and from there, they built a foundation for this advertising giant.
Jose Borghi has won so many awards, courtesy of being a prolific advertiser and his firm Mullen Lowe. He has 10 awards from Clio, 13 Lioness from Cannes, 11 awards from the New York Festival, 7 London festival awards and from Abril Awards. In the ear 1999, he got an award from Archives Magazine for being the most awarded copywriter.
