Like most other entrepreneurs who dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to achieve true desires, Jacob Gottlieb exerted himself with maximum effort to ultimately become both a Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Visium Asset Management, LLC. Based out of New York, Visium Asset Management is a company that was founded by Gottlieb in 2005 that primarily services as a healthcare investment firm. However, prior to his attainment of such success, Gottlieb used a combination of the parental inspiration that he derived from his upbringing and his extensive academic background to assist him in manifesting his chosen career path.
Throughout his childhood, Jacob Gottlieb witnessed both the integrity and genuine concern for the well-being of others that his parents exuded within their careers. His father was an economics professor and his mother was a pediatrician. Nevertheless, as a result of this, he aspired to be just like them. Later in life, post secondary school, Gottlieb earned a B.A. degree in economics from Brown University and a M.D degree from New York University Medical School. Yet, post completion of his medical internship, Gottlieb decided to solely focus on the pursuit of finance. He then further committed himself by investing within his passion to receive his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter from the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR) in 2001.
Using his expertise in finance, Gottlieb was employed by a myriad of finance companies (Merlin Financial in London, England, Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., LLC, and Balyasny Asset Management, L.P.) that collectively equipped him with the versatility in finance experience and the motivation needed to launch his own company, Visium Asset Management. Moreover, in addition to being well-versed in the academics of medicine, finance, and business, Jacob Gottlieb utilizes his societal platform to give back to the community. Covenant House is one of several nonprofit organizations that Gottlieb works with that provides shelter to trafficked and homeless adolescents. The organization has provided service in 6 countries for over a period of 40 years. Certainly, both Gottlieb’s entrepreneurial and humanitarian efforts prove that he not only believes in building opportunities for himself, but he believes in investing in the community to generate potential in aspiring young professionals.
Apparently Sean Penn does not like President Donald Trump. In fact he dislikes the current president so much that he dedicated the ending of his new book to him. It is presented in the style of a letter written by the titular character Bob Honey, and it calls Trump every bad name in the book. Although the recipient of the actual letter is called Mr. Landlord it is obvious that the character is based on Trump. Honey even dares Mr. Landlord to tweet him leaving no confusion as to who he is talking about. But Trump is not the only focal point of Penn’s new book, “Bob Honey Who Just Do Stuff”, the Oscar-winner takes aim at a wide variety of targets.
The book is a unique brand of satire written in a fast-paced prose that almost sounds like ranting. Its plot is very liquid, the flow feeling very episodic rather than one concrete tale. It is a very interesting story, with vivid characters, and the unfaltering absurdity expected of satires. Penn stated that he felt led to write the novel in lieu of recent political trends. This is quite obvious in the way the book focuses on the media, marketing, social media, recent events like the Las Vegas shooting, political administrations, and movements like #MeToo.
Penn’s writing is very frenetic, and readers may have to scan passages once or twice to pick up all the nuggets he leaves behind. As with any satire the underlying inspiration is based on real events, paralleling them in a more absurdist tone. The dystopian America Bob lives in is a hyped up version of our own, but a version none the less. Bob’s frustration mirrors Penn’s, and the frustration of may like Penn. The references to current events like #MeToo are not disguised, and are mentioned by their actual names. The focus on #MeToo falling within the confines of a poem that serves as the epilogue.
Penn does not hold back in his opinions, attacking some subjects with feral savagery, using stinging description to paint a vivid picture of dislike. The main underlying story follows Bob Honey, a former septic tank salesmen as he meanders through crazy incidents. He holds many jobs, one of which is a contracted assassin for a cagey government agency. His assassin job sees Bob killing old people with a mallet to decrease the surplus population. When an investigative reporter begins sniffing around it throws Bob’s life into chaos.
When American Idol returned to the air recently Ryan Seacrest almost wasn’t a part of it. ABC had won the rights to this tv show, originally airing on FOX, and they gave him a lowball offer which he rejected. He had been the host of this show for 15 years and was considered the most essential part.
The management team behind American Idol had come to an agreement with Katy Perry to serve as a judge and it was leaked she would be paid $25 million. This amount meant they had to make cuts elsewhere and the showrunners decided that would be what they paid Ryan Seacrest. They cut their offer to him in half, from $10 million to $5 million. His team requested that his name be withdrawn from contention for hosting duties because of this.
The top executives at ABC didn’t know anything about this lowball offer. Once they found out they quickly got involved and one of them personally called Ryan Seacrest in order to get things back on track. Some of his team thought he should reject going back to American Idol since he has so many other things going on but his affection for the show led to him going back once they gave him a revised offer that exceeded $10 million.
Ryan Seacrest has been hosting “Live with Kelly and Ryan” since June of last year. This is a tv morning show focused on lifestyle, celebrities, and light news. He also hosts “On Air with Ryan” which is his morning radio show. Additionally, he produces a number of reality-based shows such as “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and its various spinoffs as well as other shows such as “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution”. He also stays busy as one of the managers of the “Ryan Seacrest Foundation” which provides media rooms inside of pediatric hospitals.
He has also branched out into retail. Ryan Seacrest released a line of men’s clothing named “Distinction”. This line can be found exclusively at Macy’s stores. He also partnered with a notable dermatologist and released a line of men’s skincare products named “Polish”. Know more about this on his Facebook account.
End Citizens United is a group dedicated to helping reverse the decisions made by Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, a Supreme Court case that change the way that corporations are treated when it comes to their individual freedoms of speech. The reason that this court case is so important to groups such as End Citizens United is because of the hidden implications that reside with giving corporations this type of freedom, especially when it comes to the political process. There are various ways that corporations can shake up the political process and exert an undue amount of influence over candidates. This can be done by promising extensive amounts of funding toward the candidate, and because of this new decision, these corporations are not required to report such monetary donations.
The whole reason that this decision came into the fact is that of the conservative group dubbed Citizens United. They had earned the ire of the Federal Election Commission when they released a movie about Hillary Clinton, who is running for president’s office at the time. The movie turned out to be nothing more than a feature-length ad against the candidate. It became immediately clear that a corporation had helped the group produce the ad as an attempt to attack the candidate, the FEC wanted to get that information as it was a federal law. Citizens United refused to provide that information and it went all the way up to the Supreme Court. Now, it is a law that these corporations can contribute to political campaigns uninhibited.
End Citizens United saw the future that would revolve around corporations being able to continue this practice, without some type of check. The group is dedicated to fighting against this decision and moving towards a more lasting solution. They want candidates that have signed a pledge stating that they will not accept funding from corporate sources. In exchange for that pledge, the individuals in citizens United will work to raise additional funding for these individuals to help put them on similar financial playing fields with their competitors. In fact, in their first political cycle, they were able to raise more than $25 million for the candidates they supported. This place most of the individuals on par if not exceeding their competitors in their races. It proved that End Citizens United could be a valuable resource for these individuals and help to fight against this cause.
